Right now I've got 3 Orinocensis pbass in a 75gal tank and I'd like to try and add some other fish as one of my bass is quite dominant to the other two and I'd like to try and break that up a little bit. I've got standard Home Depot pea gravel for a substrate. I was wondering if geos would work at all with my setup? I know they can't sift gravel but some pellets are missed by the bass and fall to the gravel and it'd be nice to have something down there to help clean-up that ISN'T a catfish but would be biotope correct...

The least you can do as a fishkeeper. They won't die but would greatly appreciate it. It's nice to see natural behavior.

I'd change it as sand is pretty cheap.

I had mine on gravel for a few months before switching to sand, so i would say they can definitely live with a gravel substrate. They do seem much "happier" with the sand.

I would be worried about the P-Bass beating the heck out of the geos, they are pretty mellow fish. Then again, I've never kept cichla, so I really don't know what would happen.

How do u clean sand very well? Like I got sand and wen i put my cyfone in there i was very careful not to pick up the sand but i wasn't really able to pick up all the stuff on the bottom.... my filter is working well tho. PM me

It's not so much the cost of it as it is the hassle of changing it over. Plus I'm gonna be upgrading their tank to a 210 here in the next month. Would sand like pool filter sand be ok with geos if I did choose that as a substrate in my 210?

Get bigger grained sand, it's heavier and won't get sucked up.

BTW You spell "cyfone" like this --> siphon :)

I wouldn't do it. You already have 3 fish that can grow to 2ft in a 4ft tank and want to add more fish? I would seriously consider a much larger tank or re-home the bass.

Already stated moving to a 210 for growout within the month, the bass are no more than 5" right now.
