I got a 3-4 in thinbar last week in the mail, he has been stable since I got him.

My question is he sort of always has his mouth open not wide but enough, his breathing also seems alittle bit heavier then everyone else. his face also has a flushed look to it.

Tank parameters seem ok as do the rest of his tank mates. He has not eaten yet, I have been trying shrimp pellots. If he keeps this up tommorrow I will get feeders just to be sure he eats(I hate using them).

he seems to be swimming around no one is messing with him, I wonder what gives. The only fish that did mess with him is in quarantine till a friend gets it. Odd thing is by the quarantine is were the dat always hangs out.

I'll have to get some tonight he is at the top of the tank as of this morning, not mouthing the surface but up high in the tank.

It sounds as if your Thinbar might have some sort of parasites in it's gills. This particular dat seems to be the most succeptible to having this problem and I have lost enough NTT's to parasites to cause me to stop buying them eventhough they are among my favorites......Hopefully you are not too late but get it to a smaller hospital tank and dose it with a good parasite medication....Does'nt sound good though with the rapid breathing.

x2 couldn't agree more... especially "I have lost enough NTT's to parasites to cause me to stop buying them eventhough they are among my favorites."

Gorgeous are'nt they?..I was just at a store the other day and they had some good looking ones and I fought back the temptation.

Yeah they are, I really miss mine:(
It is almost a necessity to QT them in coppersafe for a month before adding them to your tank.

Yes..There was quite a discussion about this whole thing about a year or so ago.I think I even made the suggestion that the NTT warning be made into a sticky.

I did catch him at the surface a minute ago. I added a powerhead with the aerator wide open and did a 25% water change.

Are parasite buddys a good medication to use? My hospital tank is in use so I will have to dose the big tank.

sorry
