Is tank water nasty to you?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There is no need to suck on a hose...

For a short length 4' (use with bucket) - put the hose in the tank, let the air come out, put your thumb over the small end opening, and pull that end out of the tank, remove thumb, pours in bucket. Done.

This... I'm surprised to hear people still put their mouths on a hose. The technology has been around for a long time for this not to happen.

In the 80's I bought a hose(for gas) that had a squeeze pump inline that would get the gas flowing in under 10 seconds.

I started fish keeping in 1990 and have never sucked on the hose. It's very simple to fill a hose with water and let gravity do the rest.

Yeah I've kept fish since I was in grade school and always found a work around. To each there own though. If you didn't have a device, and were trying to clean a 10g tank, I mean I get it.

I built a 27 foot long clear hose that cleans out my tank without carrying water though my house and I all I have to do is raise the opening full of water up without touching it

funny thread, nothing wrong with a well maintained tanks water. now the last lake you swam in might be an issue.

Since aquariums have a higher concentration of fish than rivers, they have a higher concentration of bacteria. You can get really nasty amoeba infections from rivers/lakes, too, and I'll bet the chance is way higher in a packed system. I wouldn't drink river water, so I absolutely won't drink tank water.
Well- maybe discus water if I really had to. It's probably cleaner than in a lot of rivers.
Monsters Inside Me. 'nuff said

I understand your point, but this thread was never, ever about consuming tank water. If you accidentally get a mouthful, spit it out and go rinse with some mouth wash and you're good to go. From what I've read, even deadly snake venoms aren't fatal if ingested
as long as you don't have open cuts or cavities in your mouth

I have no probs drinking from a stream when out hiking, I carry a seira cup just for that purpose.
and i have no probs drinking from a lake.

so I guess I will drink from any old nasty water source when I am thirsty. l.oL
