Any and all law suits will fail because PSN is free. They provide it for us generously and no court will rule against sony when they have a fleet of lawyers and a rock solid user agreement.

Out of curiosity, does their user agreement say anything about not being held responsible for identity theft due to their negligence? If it is proven that their security was inadequate (which it was), they can still be held responsible for not holding up their end of the agreement.

I'm not sure. But I bet at most they would reimburse people for any charges on their credit card. Which would be nothing for sony. But because PSN is free they won't have to pay a dime for it being down. They could shut it down permanently if they felt like it. But I highly doubt they will end up paying anything, and if they do it will be an out of court settlement and it'll be pocket change for sony.

Nobody's suing them because they can't play COD online. The lawsuit is because 1) they failed to take the proper precautions to secure millions of people's private information and 2) they didn't give timely notice to those affected.

i honestly don't think it will be back up for a while (maybe another month even)... if you consider how massive the SOE infrastructure is, its going to take a long while to test and de-bug everything before they put it back up just to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen again...

I mean seriously could you imagine how bad sony would look if this happened say a day or even a month after they upgrade everything just because they rushed it and didn't bother testing thoroughly enough...

BTW, did any one else notice how they Sony said they found an "ANONYMOUS" file, which said "we are a legion" or something along those lines, do you all think could it have been the hacker group Anonymous that hacked the PSN?
