Is this a decent tank setup for my new Green Terror?

Do you think this has to do with the pinkish tint to the water? I'm just not sure why you asked. If it's the terra cotta, and will go away with time that's cool. Or if i need to find another food for him I'd like to know.

@pink color: That definitely comes from the food. If you cut back feeding, it will fade I think.

@food: Maybe cyclops are a little too small, yes. But my big boy goes nuts for fully grown artemia, red mosquito larvae (maybe you wanna try the jumbos) and ghost shrimp.

yer im with greenterra with the driftwood or a hollowed out peice of bog wood looks good and has shelter, i found that same with red devils and they decided to breed in my community tank 3 times successfully.

That looks good. He might be more willing to hide in there if he could get out without having to do gymnastics. Hey, just a question -- have you ever had new terra cotta turn your water pink? It's either that, or the Hikari Cichlid Gold, but he eats so fast, I can't see it being the food. It's not really pink, or anything. But there is a pinkish tinge, and I was wondering if it was the new pot.

i sprayed my pot down b4 adding it was high pressure system(hose and my thumb) haha

but i have never seen that b4...i have 4 pots in my 125 never had any trouble

mine also is a 75

Just have a few suggestions. Mine liked to hide behind things when scared or stressed not really into things like the clay pot, so maybe turn that sideways near the glass. As it gets bigger be aware that the pot or the ornament might need taken out for extra room for the GT. Other than that, great tank! Alot better than mine was with sand and a few fake plastic plants. lol

Does he seem ok now? Can you do those 'drop' water tests? Apologies, if I seem forward but I have experience of the 'Aquidens rivulatus' or Green Terror...

Please let me know if there is anything I can do in terms of information?

Putting some 'Aquarium carbon' in your filter may help, as will 30% daily water changes, just for a week or so WILL help. If you also use a proprietry water conditioner. Something that removes chlorine and chloramine....

Good luck :-)

Best regards,

Andrew or 'Soggy drysuit' from 'SCUBA'...

I Think GT’s are among the most beautiful fresh water fish in the world! I am seriously thinking of setting up a tank for one. I had one a few years ago but got rid of it to make room for other fish.
This is how I would start if I had your current set up, I would remove the pot and create a tangle of drift wood around the “tree stump” on the left side of the tank where you have it now. Leave the right side of the tank for open swimming space. I would also put a black background on the tank and use a single 10K or 50/50 bulb to pop the red and blue, both are strong in the blue spectrum but spike enough in the red to pop the tail and dorsal color. The muted lighting gives them a heightened sense of security and looks cool too. I feed mine Hikari Bio Gold+ & NLS pellets, Frozen Krill & earthworms. About 80% pellets and 20% Live/Frozen. There’s my 2 cents for what is worth. Good luck keep us posted on your progress.

PS. The blue light does promote the growth of Alge, so I would add a Bushy nose Pleco. They stay small ~6" and do a good job cleanning the tank surfaces unlike some others.

Sorry for being dyslectic, left side should be right side and visa versa. I should proof read better.

The driftwood idea is a good biotope mode, however, flower pots are found more commonly now in most waterways. Just turning the pot to the side so that the opening is pointing towards the center of the tank will help. he will eventually back into it and peek his head out. background and a couple of taller plants would make it look nice. they are pretty smart fish and will adjust to their living conditions usually no matter what you do.
