Is this a good cray tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i didnt read the hole thread but the guy i bought mine from said between 22-44 days before they hatch,he said it depends on the cray

You should add some sAnd and put some caves in it I had a cray fish but it got devoured by my 12 red bellied piranha
Was it surprising to you that this happened?

mine are reaching 2-2.5in which from everything is big enough to start
Then don't give up now! Maybe they could use more food variety or a different temperature. Mine are at about 70ºF.

they get the left overs still on the clam shells from my puffer, crab pellets, potato, algae wafers, and water sprite. The tank is at around 70-72. I think Im just getting impatient lol. I wanna start feeding my puffers some crays

The waiting is killing me so I picked up their caves and pestered them for good measure. I can see little white critters growing on the eggs, so they're good. Have a tank for the fry ready. Ready to strangle the two mamas and demand payment now. Give me the babies! 22 freaking days?! Imma have a myocardial infarction!

Anybody raised the babies in a cold tank? Like 55ºF? That's the natural temp in my basement and it would be nice to not have to heat another tank down there.

In theory they should be able to take it. Growth will likely be slower though, so if you're trying to bulk them up to feed to fish then you'll want some heat in there. :)

And now I find myself picking up both moms to see how far along the babies are. I'm afraid I won't be around when they become free-crawling and that the moms will be very hungry right about then. They still aren't eating. Does anyone know if the babies are okay with being pulled off of the mom once they are fully developed? They won't shake loose but they are clearly complete creatures.

Got back from vacation and have babies everywhere! One mom died but the other is fine. It appears both sets of offspring developed pretty well. The babies are everywhere and I even added a few to most of my tanks. Many became snacks right then but plenty went into hiding so I guess we'll see. I'm growing out a ton of them in the tank they were born in with the remaining mother. I can't believe how cute they are! Like little robot toys.

I assume we're talking Marmokrebs here? If so, I have a 55 gal with them to feed my Fahaka and Ceylon puffers. I have 2 that are old enough to multiply and about 20 half way there. 1 is holding as we speak. I leave the little ones in the same tank. Keep feeding veggies/plants and they'll leave the little ones alone. I also have 2 small bristlenose and countless cherry shrimp in the same tank. The crays are only interested in food you supply (in my experience). I also keep mine in warm (78-80) degree water. I have lots of rocks (few are limestone) and a good 3" rock/pebble substrate. My PH is in the high 7s. Stays constant. The crays molt approx once a month. Oh, as for babies, they usually multiply every 3 months or so.
