for filtration? I was looking at the waterfall filtration setup, and am curious about this hypothetical setup. Two pond filters draw water up into the waterfall setup above, which comes back into the tank. Not complicated at all.

Then, for quick water changes, two drains on the bottom, with a turn valve to start water flow out a hose.

That is it. What are the flaws with the idea? It seems too simple to be good for a large, multi hundred, maybe 1000 gallon setup. :)

having a pump inside can cause pumps to clog i would use a overflow with a prefilter into a sump........

cool, that's one mistake out of the way. So, but what about mechanical filtration?

wouldn't you rather have this in filtration/setup forum? :D

yea just use a overflow box with prefilter........ or have it drop into a sump with filter sock.......;)

where is the biological filtration?
Is that located in the water fall?

I like your fish. Is it a type of goldfish or piranha

How will that remove the waste on the bottom? just curious, never had a tank with overflow.

is the drain idea good?

it's an onionfish :D

the biological filtration is in the waterfall. The waterfall are many containers placed on top of each other, and filled with filter media (ex. scrubbies). The water flows through one, and down into the other, until it finally returns to the tank. Lot's of aeration as well.

this just looks like an overflow filter. You don't really need to worry about the pumps clogging if you slap a prefilter on them.
