If you're trying to break him off live don't give in. Mine were trained at 1.5". They ate floating pellets until 5 inches. Then I mixed in frozen smelt. Don't worry if you offer him food eventually he will eat.

Armatus tend to love silver shiny things so you should definitely have tried silversides before everything. Also are you taking out the pellets and stuff after you drop them in? I have also found adequate aeration is paramount.
mythreads old . what i ended up doing was throwing in like 24 live goldfish every month or less. I figured once he gets bigger and more confident and associates me more with the food provider ill be recognized better. I gave him 24 goldfish last week, ate em all super quick. At the end of the week he is looking hungry again, I decide today im gunna try silversides again. I put on loosely on a broken hook, he pays a lot of attention to it but timid to bite it (probably cause I have a god damn hook sticking out of it and a line...) so with the attention he is giving it I just pull it out take it off and toss it in. Boom takes it. gunna post some victory photos
