The title asks the question, "Is this a good setup for 3 red bellys?" This is a 55 gallon tank with a 350 magnum canister filter, 2 biowheels, 200 watt heater, 3 hornwort plants, 2 fake plants, a piece of fake drift wood, and black substrate.

Here's a video below of what it looks like.

Please let me know if I need to add or get rid of anything.

Thanks,
Stew

looks good. 55g might be a bit too narrow in the long run but you should get couple years out of it if get the rbps small.

Thanks, yeah I plan to buy 2 inch rbps, from a local store. Also I still need to cycle this tank, I'm thinking of getting mollies, but don't know if that's the right choice and how many I need.

Thanks,
Stew

Wait, what, you mean someone did research and planned ahead for their fish? Do you have a thermometer? Thats the only thing I would add that I'm not seeing.

Anything besides a goldfish should work fine to cycle the tank with since its going to more than likely be evicted after the piranha move in. Neons might last longer since there fast little buggers if your into the whole survivor mode thing.

I'm guessing your being sarcastic with the research thing? haha. Yeah, I tend to research and look into things very deeply before investing in them. Because for a 16 year old, this is quite an investment. ha. Also, yes I have a digital thermometer and the temperature is always floating around 79 degrees Fahrenheit.

One last thing, how many cycle fish should I get? 5? 10?

Thanks,
Stew

You'd be surprised at how many people jump into stuff without doing research. You probably made our day. lol

Last time i cycled a 55 i did it with 6 neon tetras.

Your tank looks great. the only thing i'd personally change myself is i'd add a powerhead (and then you wouldn't need the bubble treasure chest unless you love the look of it).

what I have done in the past if I want to start up a tank quick is to get some established bio media from lfs or if you have a tank already cycled or those bacterias in a bottle product (stress zyme or stability, both worked good for me in the past) and then drop in some fish fillet or raw shrimp.
established bio media contains beneficial bacterias already and it helps to seed your new bio media and the shrimp or fish fillet (just replace them every other day or so so they don't smell bad)will provide food source to those bacterias as they decompose. soon your'll have enough bacterias in the bio media, just check your parameters every few days.

Stew

This is my first tank, but thanks for the idea. But how long will it take for just putting, say 6 tetras in there? Or does it all depend and do I just need to do tests on the water and wait? Last thing, what is the best testing kit? I have a pH test kit, but that's it.

Thanks,
Stew
