Is this a Green Terror?? I don't think so...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well this may end up being a good choice then...I guess we'll have to see

It's going to be in a tank with 1 EBJD, 1 Tiger Oscar, and 1 Green terror. The rest will be just plecos and synos.

What I decided to do with my 150g tank is just put 4 semi-aggressive fish with lots of hiding and open spaces, and just let them grow to their 10"

These guys are usually more than semi-aggressive. Keep a close eye on them or he might end up being the only fish left

Sorry for the double-post, but I just called the pet shop. Turns out it was, in fact, a buttikoferi. From what you all said, though...I may end up returning it anyways if it's going to be overly aggressive

Save yourself the hassle now and return it, if you want a somewhat community tank, this fish will eventually kill the others. Buttikoferi can be very belligerent :screwy:, especially if it turns out to be a male. Not to mention it will dwarf the other in size. This fish can get close to 14 inches and will be doubled the widht of any JD or GT. Now if you want a beast of a fish ,you got one, In my opinion from the one's I have owned, I would rank them in the top 5 all time meanest fish towards other tankmates (fighting wise) right below the Dovii and Umbee for shear aggression..

Wow really? Well thanks, duly noted. The guy said they should be getting some new Green Terrors in on Wednesday (which hopefully means REAL Green Terrors...) so I'll probably just swap it out then.

It really is quite unfortunate that they get so aggressive though, they actually look pretty good

Haha, anyone working at a "Cichlid speciality" store who thought that was a green terror should be fired. ;)

I wouldn't keep it with your stock either.

tilapia? I don't think so, I don't remember the name but I think they only get around 4-5 inches!

The quote above is 100% wrong....they get large, and much more aggressive than the OP's listed stock. I personally find Tilapia buttikoferi to be more interesting than GT or oscars though
