Is this a Green Terror?? I don't think so...

Yes take the butti back and tell him to get a book on cichlids and do him some reading. That fish is way too agressive for your stock and will kill everything in there in time.

I've always wanted to keep one of these guys in a species tank (all by himself). These are brutes...built like linebackers. A LFS had one that was easily 16" (I think 12" is a more typical size) and it was thicker than any cichlid I've ever seen. They tend to darken up (lose the white stripes) as they get older.

Yeah that's what I keep hearing, that they're incredibly durable and super nasty. My original plan was to get a Managuense to put in there, and everyone told me "no way, it'll be way too aggressive!" and go figure, i ended up with a buttikoferi lol

One of my fav fish, I had several and the biggest being a tad over 18" mean as hell, one fish only in tank, but he gently ate food out of my hand, like an idiot, I got rid of him. I traded him into a lfs, the day I left it there some dude came in a bought it, told me he was looking for a fish to fight with his friends, so I guess this is what ended up with my old butter :(

if it makes you feel better, i dont think there is very many other cichlids that could take a butti of that size, and chances are if they really bought it to fight other fish they probably couldnt get the fish that could to a large enough size anyway.

To the OP
My butti would tolerate tank mates depending on the fish. He/she? (you cant tell them apart) was fine with my female jaguar never even a scuffle, but the male jag was a no go from the start. Convicts, sydontis cat, were fine. The clown knife growing out would get pushed around a little bit but never thrashed or descaled. GT did not work. i had a male JD in there with him as well and it was fine (butti 10" + jd 2"-3" before i removed him to another tank)

I would personally ditch the others in the tank and keep the butti. Very intelligent fish who will just sit and watch you from the other end of the room while an oscar is just a big food bin.

I just saw the picture of the species....Far from being a Green Terror.............I would lean more toward the BUTTI.............Still an aggessive cichlid, grows big................Remember, when purchasing a GT, there two types.....One is the Gold Saum and the other is the White Saum..............In other words, gold or white edges.........
