Mine used to bury all the time until it got to 3 or 4 inches. This could also be attributed to a lack of hiding places, but I'm not sure.

To answer your question earlier, I was measuring with the tail as well. Mine is maybe close to 7 inches from nose to tail. Hard to be accurate without removing the fish.
