I bought this fish from a local CL sale. The kid had it advertised as a Fire Mouth, but I knew it wasn't that. The fish was more of a rescue- the kid that had it "adopted" it at a local Petco and didn't have a suitable tank.

Not sure that I can keep it, but since the previous owner wasn't at all knowledgeable and didn't have a large enough tank, I figured the fish would be better off with me, at least for a little while. My tank is 224g

I am just worried about it being too aggressive to keep w my current stock.

This is one of two cichlids that share the name "Red Terror". You have a Mayan Cichlid. They can be aggressive with the wrong tankmates. The other Red Terror is the more popular and sought after one called Festae. Festae are more colorful, especially breeding females. There are several ways to determine which terror that you have: size and location of the spot on the tail and the barring on the body particularly just behind the head. Mayans are nice cichlids. They grow to a good size. You should keep it if you like it and can house it with appropriate tankmates.

Thanks! I do like it...so far I haven't seen any aggression. Its definitely not taking crap from any other fish, but it is not going around attacking anything.

I got it for $20...in your opinion, or anyone else's, did I get ripped off? Its a nice size fish, roughly 8-10." Honestly I just felt bad for it and wanted to give it a better home.

Ok a true cichlid nut would probably have kittens after reading what I have in the tank, but it is what it is. For what its worth my fish are all happy and get a long, I have had several of them spawn at various times although nothing hatches in there.

The tank currently houses, in addition to the fish above-

19" Common pleco (another CL deal- got him for free)
1 large feeder goldfish (don't ask)
1 Texas Cichlid
3 EBJD's
5 Roseline Sharks
4 Geophagus surinamensis
4 Geophagus jurupari
3 Geophagus brasiliensis
4 Corys
1 Gold Severum
3 Yellow Labs
4 Jewel Cichlids
6 Bolivian Rams
2 Synodontis nigriventris
1 large Synodontis eupterus and possibly 4 small ones (I put 4 in but they hide- I see 1 or 2 of them every now and then- dunno if all 4 are still in there)
1 large unknown Synodontis, could be a Eupterus
1 large pink and black blood parrot
1 medium blood parrot
2 small BP/flowerhorn crosses
1 small BP/Texas cross
