Is this a red terror?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
definatly mayan- i used to have one- can be mean depending on the tank mates

So I have been watching them through the day, and the large BP is picking on the Mayan...it is chasing it around and picking fights w it. The Mayan is actually fine when the Parrot isn't being a bully.

I'll continue to watch them and see how it goes. After I fed them the Parrot seemed to chill. I know she is a female and she got that way once before right before she laid eggs.

Oh- I did post it in the market place to see if anyone was interested. If my tank isn't the best place for it then I should see if I can find it a good home.

I bought 2 of these a month or so ago now. They're still babies, but was sold them as "festae" by a reputable LFS. I personally don't like the Uro's, they look washed out to me and will probably ditch them as soon as they're big enough to do anything with.

I don't understand why everyone refers to them as Red Terrors, because all the searching I've done on them, they've always been called Mayans. I guess they got tagged as RT's since they look similar as fry for deception purposes.

if you Google "false red terror", you'll get hits for Mayan cichlids ... since they are similar fish, mistakes happen ...

and since Mayan colors are not as bright and bold as those of a festae -- the "washed out" comment rings true -- most people would rather have the festae ...

Yeah I wasn't getting any bites on the MFK market place posting so I decided to try CL. I've gotten some interest in the Geo's though- from a different CL ad.
