  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
keep trying all you like im sure yours will turn out stunning, see even though mine has such good parents its not like that yet, thats why i think these guys colour up slowly, he looks alot better then the pic i showed earlier thats a few months old. keep us updated if you see any red ;)

Yeh will deffo,i'll bookmark this thread and put some pics up each time he grows a inch.

If he turns out to be something else again i'll continue my hunt to find these elusive (to me) Rottys!

I'm asumming that if he/she is a Rotty it wont pair up so readily with a normal Heros Efaciatus? being a slightly different species? or will they hybridise readily?

If so i wonder what a 'gold, red spotted,Red Shouldered Rotkiel Severum' woudl look like :P

They hybridise easily with golds or other sevs. I found out the hard way by selling my female rotkeil [they're rare here too] to a breeder in the hopes he'd find it a male and breed them. Instead he pairs it up with a gold male, gets a huge spawn and starts selling the hybrid fry as rotkeils claiming "Golden is not domant in breeding and all young are as the Rotkeil dark body..", and selling them with a random internet photo of a stunning male, generally misleading people and polluting the rotkeil line. I can't wait til some other ignorant sod buys them and breeds them and makes even more mongrel rubbish fish... :irked::irked::irked:
Here's a link to his auction on our local version of ebay; http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Fish/auction-228228494.htm

But back to the original photo, the anal fin has me thinking it could well be a rotkeil, but as others have said its hard to tell at this size. My guys from this thread have grown considerably and are all getting red around their heads.

and Glenbo that tank looks amazing, if that was mine id be very proud and show it to everyone! i especially like the round pebbles and the wood, they compliment eachother great

Thanks :D

greens and golds have a rounder body shape than rotkiels. Mine don't seem to show the red like other people do. but I can tell green from others

So you think mines a green?

i think its a rot.
severums never look "green" to me but I am colourblind XD
however he looks just like mine when i got him,. and even though hes pure F1 Rotkeil i still had a doubtr he might be a green cause he looked like urs at a young age, now hes got red shoulders :)

My other Juvis deffo green, hes so green i cant make him out from distance lol!

My new guy is getting a hard time from my Firemouth at the moment, poor dude has got marks all over him, hopefully it will settle down.he and my Gourami seem to do this to all new fish,My rainbow is marked up to.

If it carrys on i'll have to rehome him (the Firemouth) which will be a shame because I have grown him to near adult from the size of a penny :P
