Is this an Albino?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A friend told me it is a luecistic, like an albino but has coloring in the eyes. I did find this thread on here http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...Albino-Leucistic-Xanthic-Melanistic-etc.-Fish Courious to hear what everyone thinks. He said they are a very rare oddity.

Was going to say that before I saw your post. Luecistic fish have no pigmentation in their body, but normal eyes. I was always under the impression that they had no pigment, but that link lists it as "lacking or mostly lacking pigment." Your fish, with the normal spot on his tail, seems to fit the description.

Cool.

Thanks Tony, Allot better then hearing it is deformed and kill it. LOL I hate when people that say that.

there are other types of albinism that do not have red eyes. the list of possible mutations are a mile long. leucistic, etc etc etc. Look at some reptile sites to see other possibilities

Child_man, I will not rule this out but seems very unlikely to me. The eyes have been changing slowly for several months. I would assume if an injury had occurred the change would have been more drastic. But I am not an expert nor do I have any clue what to classify this guy as. Definately unique and I will be keeping an eye on it. Either case I will keep this guy in my possession and watch how it turns out.

hi i have two white knigts and a gold comp with the same thing

I wuld say possible gene morph of some kind. my one question is does it gain any color after lights out if so try seperating it and seeing if it regains any color it culd be a nerviouse fish. I have some in my tanks that have the attatude of a monster with lights on when other fish invade there terratory but when the lights go out they cruse the tank and regain there color. Its just a thaught. But i am honestly leaning twards some sort of gene morph.

Duster Already tried that. The dark spot has been like that since birth 5 months ago. The eyes have taken that long to be the size they are now. So no possible way it was caused from injury. I highly doubt it would continue to get worse for 5 months without something else surfacing or him dieing from an injury. He can see fine, so I would think no problems with eye sight. He has had an area of the tank that is his. Anything comes into that area and he chases it away. Including a 5 inch pleco, he seems to have no fear.
