could i use somthing like a washrag with HOT water and scrub?

You dont have any steel wool?

If you like it, scrub it and tub it. If it was sunken in a little crick and there were crayfish and minnows...the wood is probably perfectly fine.:headbang2SCORE for the free wood!!!!!!!!!!!!

no it was attached to the side of a drainage hill that goes into a creek * and theres also fish in there to we saw a 2 foot turltle and a 2 foot catfish * so i know the creek is safe.

No that is a dog. :P

Do you have a BBq grill? if so you can probably convince them to get a wire brush to clean the grill with, then use that to scrub the driftwood.

Dish scrubbers (any kind really) would work too if you have some, but it will take a lot of elbow grease. Be warned you will not want to use them on dishes afterwards.

To me it looks like it needs a good cleaning. If you can mash or pull chunks off with your hand, they need to be removed, as they will rot really fast in the water. Try a washrag if that's all you have, and scrub it hard. Maybe use a fork to scrap out any soft spots. I have had to throw away a few pieces, most of it was just too soft. It should be hard and not come off when you use your hands when its dry, if its not, you need to get the soft pieces out.

Do you have any idea what kind of wood it is?

There are some kinds you just really want to avoid, cedar is a big killer.

alreaddy boiled a few days ago and then was sitting by my heater that heats my room from the woodstove thats downstaires. its REALLY dry so now im useing a fork to get the soft stuff out
