Where the cheeseheads are..
Hey all, I'm new here, nice forum by the way :nilly:
3days ago I got a pair of pearl, they are still acclimating maybe,
a bit signs of stress like rushing to the corner, tries to get out of water desperately sometimes, only eat a little bit of ghost shrimp.
This is the photo of the male.. about 5 inch
He does this for like 10-15 minutes / hour.
Is this categorized as fin curl?

Tank conditions : Ph 6.8-7.3 Heater set to 89
Should I cover the tank to get it dark?
Should I get any medications or water add ons ??

Hoping to hear some great tips soon,
Thanks!!

doesnt really look like disc curl, more like he is just hanging out. Welcome to the forums, death curl would actually curl up more. I would still suggest keeping it dark for a while.

89 degrees??why so hot? turn the lights out and minimize disturbing them..oh, nice rays!!

i agree keep them around 84-86 to bump thier metabalism, will they eat earthworms?

Not deathcurl. It may be irratated on the bottom due to a little ammonia burn during shipping or if it wasn't on barebottom before it may be rubbing the skin a bit till it toughens out. Keep the tank dark for awhile, 83 is where I keep new imports at but anywhere between 80-86 is good, and try either live blackworms or small earthworms. When you say your ph is between 6.8 and 7.3 is it because your having a problm getting an acurate reading o does your ph fluctuate?
btw nice ray and welcome to the forum

Ok, thanks for the tips.
I will lower the temp and cover the tank ...
Is it normal for them to sometimes trying desperately to leap off water?
Gives me a headache watching them do so..

Thanks :)

No they don't try and leap out of the water usually unless something is wrong. What are the tankmates and how are they acting?

The tank mates are a pair of motoro.
They got into the tank a month ago.
The female motoro used to do that, jumping out of water a LOT.
But ever since the pearls arrived I never saw her do that anymore.
My Ph water fluctuate a bit, hopefully its not lethal

Are they trying to jump out or just going up the side and back down again just so thier nose comes out of the water? Do you try adjusting your ph or do you just use tap water and conditon it? How often do you do water changes and what percent of your tank? how big is your tank? Sorry for all the questions just trying to understand everything to help out best
