Is this Fin rot?

Yeah, that's not normal, this is normal.

I think black arows are more prone to fin tearing and fin rot, maybe their fins are more soft than silver arows. Remember, most black arows are directly caught from the wild, unlike silver arows.
Maybe your arow had a hard time adjusting to your water and is sill having a hard time. From the looks of it, it's been going on for some time now? Also Could be running into things when spooked, and I now for sure that their fins tears really easily when they get spooked and run all over the tank.

By the way, what kind of water conditioner are you using?

Would something like melafix or pimafix help the situation? I was reading to since I have a hystrix in there with it both are safe. Any suggestions to get it better would be great, been doing the water changes, salt and increased temp...seems to be staying the same yet none of the other fish are bothered by it.

I noticed this the other day, he is about 7 inches looks like Fin rot but I just want to make sure. He doesn't seem stressed, he swims around like normal and eats everything in sight. I do 40% water changes twice a week and none of my discus or my stingray seem to be affected by it. Any ideas what is going on, I have not tested my water but I do a bunch of water changes.

fin rot, infection or not, ure aro's fins looks really2 cool . lol :chillpill:

He still has good color, Just trying to get his fins to fill back in. How would I tell if there's some sort of bacteria or fungal issue? He seems to be acting fine, his fins are just tattered. I'm lost a bit, lol

im not an aro keeper but i think u should be concern when it's starting to act not-normal. lol tht's wht all fish do when they are sick.

If I had a kid that looked like that, I'd be nervous too. At least run a full test on your water params.

Agreed, post water perameters. Test before your next water change.

Theres been a couple threads posted recently on the same kind of black aro issue. Some think its from tankmates taking chunks of fin out. I don't think this is the case cause neither op mentioned anything about tankmate aggression. I would think some scales would be messed up along with dark bruising spots on the body appearing if tankmates were involved as well. Aggression usually causes a deep split or 2 or 3. Nothing that looks like this. Bderick said it right first in the other thread..FINROT! What it's from, who knows. I thought the other aro suffered from too much current and airbubbles at such a young age. Mine around 14inch started to get it from a big bubblewall i put in. Just minor tethering. I took the heavy airation out and it went away. This problem could arise i'm sure from many causes including water quality issues too
