Mine had that too. But then i spooked him and it ended up being my pool filter sand on his head. Because it all came off :p

In a bad way!
Looks like its lost most of its slimecoat, or scale rot.

What is it being kept with?

I picked it up from my local lfs like this :( thought i was just because it was stressed out its housed with a redtailed black shark

no plecos or anything

i have put melafix and stresscoat in the tank to see if that would help

Mine did that when i first got him. that one being that big just looks a little stressed out to me. If it stays that way for like a week or so then i would look into it. But mine took 2-3 days to get to know everyone.

It is already getting its colour back slowly so fingers crossed it will be ok its around 11inchs long atm, i have introduced my 2 jack dempsy cichlids into the tank today there around 4 -5 inchs this should ok right??

i was looking at getting a green terror cichlid in a few weeks aswell is this a compatible tank mate??

it would have been better if the ornate was alone so it can fully recover because sometimes cichlids can be a bit aggressive towards bichirs.

try adding aquarium salt too along with the stress Coat+ to help.

the cichlids are tiny and dont bother the bichir :)

i have put stress coat in and melafix, it looks like its going to die now ill post a pic its in a very bad way!!

looks like its bleeding!!!!
