To add to this, the scale rot is caused by a bacterial infection. Mela or Pima will do nothing to cure the scale rot. Clean water & salt by itself will not cure the bacterial infection. IMO to give it a fighting chance, you need to use a gram negative antibiotic or full spectrum antibiotic. I have used triple sulfa in the past with good results. Put in a bare bottom quarantine tank, make sure your filtration is seeded, keep water clean, add some aquarium salt (one tablespoon per every 5 gallons), and follow the antibiotic instructions. Good luck.

Before you ask for chance of survival, tell us what steps you have taken (to make things better for the poly) since opening this thread.
daily water changes, stress coat, and a daily dose of melafix which says helps fin rot and scale rot, other than that i dont know what else to do.
is scalerot contagious to other fish in the tank??
Without the use of antibiotics, doubtfull the fish has any chance. Framcosco, TGM have given good advice--follow it.
If you are looking for desperate measures i have seen this on youtube not saying it ok to do but if it's an almost for sure goner why don't you still try? But if you want to still try i have seen people take the fish out and cotton swab antibiotics on there fish. I'm pretty sure it was hydrogen peroxide. Not sure But if you are already planning a grave why not try? Nothing to loose. i have always gone to extra measures for my fish. Even when i've waken up and seen them dead (don't think i'm weird i just love my fish to the fullest extent) that doesn't keep me from trying to revive it by swiping it through the water. But if i were you i would still try until he is positively dead.
Keep in mind i'm saying this because from what people are posting this sounds like a dead fish in the making. If he has a 1% chance i'd take it cause he has a chance no matter how small. (my opinions) (everyone is entitled to them lol)
