Is this over stocked?

The amount of waterchanges can vary greatly from tank to tank. Imo the ideal way to gauge this is to test your water. When your nitrates get high do a water change. Then when they get high again...do another water change. Build your routine around test results. As your fish get bigger this routine will need to be altered by either more frequent water changes or higher volume water changes. Either way this whole "I change my water once a month" "Well you need to do is 17 times a week like me" banter is useless.

Very well stated. Tank size, bio load, feeding regiments and fish type will determine your water change schedule but only since they affect your parameters. When your parameters start to degrade, its time for a water change. Waiting longer is detrimental to your fish and more often is wasteful. Not everybody's tank parameters degrade at the same rate and unless you know that rate you cant tell someone when room do a wc

Yeah, I wasn't saying that he HAD. To do it once I week. I know tanks vary by stock and size. My tank IMO is overstocked right now so I have to do more regular water changes to keep down on the water parameters. Just saying if I waited a month I'd either have A.) a dead fish or B.) brown water

Yes.

Like others have said, sounds fine IMO.

You will always have those certain people that say everything is too small.

Just out of curiosity, does anybody think I would be able to add a Polypterus Palmas (WC) to the mix? The tank is big enough, I'm just not sure with the tank mates. Any experts or knowledgeable can chime on in?
