It gets pretty cramped inside a fish's stomach. It is best to keep feeders in this condition so that they are more comfortable with what is to come :D

my new sig line!!

I voted "you so crazy" just because I have a 45g for growing out my pbass and that setup is better than mine.

yeah i was just there yesterday and i saw that price the only thing is when i get them i will want to buy as many as possible at once and they didn't have thats many so i have to get ahold of them to see if they can get me bulk and ill just go there on the day they det them delivered and take them right from them thats way

and i did look into the sponge filters and it doesn't look like a bad idea at all i think im going to go ahead and do that also can anyone sugest a good sponge filter that will do the job for this big of tank and what size airstone i will need for them (i will prolly do two of them)

The Hydro5 sponge filters are the best IMO. use an air stone in the base rather than the hose nipple for a much better flow.

I noticed a few 'underfiltered' comments and I had to laugh. I know of grow out and feeder tanks with 4 times that many fish in them running on nothing but hydro5's. PROPER filtration (high efficiancy) will always win out over massive filtration for the hell of it...

pack more fish house m ore garbage ups your chances for unhealthy stock wich leads to disease.... i would keep 50 - 100 dont push it youll be better off and switch to guppies they are better feeders imo

If you add in the $200 or so for the cost of the FX5 and the $50 or so for the other filter/aerater supplies, you are pretty deep into the cost of the feeders.

I think the week of the delivery you are going to have substantial feeder losses (not that it really matters). Going from 100 feeders to 1000 feeders overnite will be a ton of strain on the bacteria to keep up. Feeders will die and foul the water leading to more deaths in a cascade effect. My LFS keeps feeders in a 120 gallon tank with 2 emperor 400s and a bubble bar with daily water changes, and they have 5-10% fish loss every time they get a new order in. They throw away the dead, but you could presumably freeze and feed the dead.

If you were going to maintain a stable population of 1000 one inch feeders in your tank, you would likely be successful (lots of water changes to reduce nitrates). It's the swing from low to high biodensity that causes the problems.

Why don't you just put some guppies in the 5 and 10 gallon that you mentioned that you had? The guppies would breed like crazy and you would never need to buy any again, the filtration would be a heck of a lot cheaper and you can save the 75 gallon and the money that you were going to spend on all of these goldfish and filtration on bigger and better things.

Yes, I agree, get guppies instead. Then you won't need to constantly restock as goldfish don't breed as easier and guppies are safer to feed to your fish than goldfish.

You could get a few male feeder guppies(they mate easier than fancy ones) and maybe twice as many hardy females(doesn't matter "fancy" or just plain ones). They would breed like crazy and within a few months or so, you have mucho feeders.

Definitely overstocked; probably underfiltered to, but 1000 goldfish in such a small volume makes filtering negligable.

Goldfish are poor feeder fish and those conditions will make for sickly ones at that... go for guppies. I wouldn't feed my fish goldfish, let alone ones raised in poor conditions.

I personally think that Goldfish will be better off at temps of 72F-75F. So the heater would be fine.

I agree; I keep my fancy's at 74-75 degrees... comets would do fine at room temp., but warmer will give them faster growth.

how about 200 guppies in the 75? probably breed fast enough that you'd only have to buy a new stock of feeders to prevent too much inbreeding.
