The 125 is overstocked as well...
Anyone want to help me out with the name of the substance in goldfish that stunts growth? Thiaminase or something like that?

i know the 125 is overstocked thats why i knew when i bought them i would either have to buy a another 125 and split the stock or get rid of half or so of the stock and bring it down around the ballpark of 6-8

what what did i do this weekend HMMMMMM ... what do u guys think i did?

i bought another 125 :headbang2
hopefully to be set up and running in about 3 months

i plan to split the stock of RBPs and i will end up with 7 RBPs in one tank and 6 in the other unless i want to buy one more and make it 7 ad 7 ( what i plan on doin more then likely)

WOW to many ppl don't think i know what i'm doing it seems when i put 13 juvy Ps in a 125 they go nuts ....

PERSON: 13 Ps in a 125 u can't do that
ME: when they are 2" or less when i buy them yes i can
P: but they can't be held to adulthood in that tank
M: i know i planned on a death or two to thin them out but they all are alive and doing well
P: well ..... welll.....
M: I know i thought this out and u assumed its ok i get that alot
P: umm..... i got to go

lol thats about how it goes most of the time lol

I was losing small fish and snails to filter inlets for awhile in one of my tanks. I recommend connecting a sponge filter to the inlet. You get a little extra filtration and a second chance for fish to get at food before its gone. Oh, it diffuses the current too.
I dont remember the exact name of the growth inhibitor but I dont think it really matters since he's using them as feeders. This is ofcourse if he's thinking of it as a holding tank and not as a breeding tank.

i am not concerned about a growth inhibitor for a coup[le of reasons
1. Never heard of it ( i'm a read to belive person, give me a linkin this plz)
2. they are not on a diet of strickly golds if they were and this was tru then i might care a lil more

i would like for them to breed but since i contacted a person that has done that before with golds its just not practical in this tank ( u know who u are who told me this i don't need to name ya ;))

it is more of a holding tank in that right then

also i did just hook up my first sponge filter but i don't think using it to block current in the filter inlet is going to make a great idea do to the fact that big debris can't get through it and i won't be able to use the FX5 for the machanical filtration that i need and or want out of it ( good idea though)
ill psot pics with the sponge filters in there hopefully tomorow i am waiting to get one more bubble stone for the sponge and then i can hook it up

i do think that just upgrading to larger golds will be the best idea at this point they will not be affected by the current as bad

also the death count now is 36 to bring the % up to 7.2% mostly due to the filter inlet i think and for a term of 4 days is about 1.8% a day i don't think that that is bad at all

P.S. sry i couldn'y make this all one big post

Since someone doesn't care enough about possible threats to the welfare of his/her fish to spend 5 seconds on google, here it is: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Articles/Thiaminase.htm

I'm sure there are more reputable sites out there with the same information, but I'll let you folks explore that on your own as I already know not to use goldfish as feeders. My platys and guppies will just have to accept that their children will gradually be taken away by a small blue net and be fed to my bichir...

Not 1.8% per day... Since you have dieoff daily, the total number decreases and the percentage that each individual accounts for rises. You should keep a running count of the percentage lost per day to be sure that it is not increasing.

the daterate i go off of is total number i had to begin with 500 no the total number i have at the beginning of the day that number is to hard to keep track of
