na im not trying to overstock it the whole reason i started this thread is to avoid that...lupin i see you know alot about snails! are there any i can put in my tank? i would have to know how to care for them though i dont know anything about them not even how they feed lol but i like learning though and when i find interest in something i do so much research about it and ask alot of questions (like i did and still doing with fish keeping) so if i like what you tell me i might go snail crazy also:nilly:
You'll need to determine your pH and KH (carbonate hardness) first before you put any snail in there. Snails often available in the trade absorb calcium to keep their shells nice and thick. Soft acidic water tends to erode their shells severely causing plenty of health issues for them. If your fish can handle hard alkaline waters, then the snails make fine additions. I have BN plecos and a whiptail in my snail tank full of MTS, ramshorns and Pomacea diffusa.

k i will thanks and one more question i just realized my ph is 7.6 and when i looked up the profiles of German blue rams and cardinal tetras it said they live in ph levels from 5.5 to 7.0 am i going to need to lower my ph?

No, you'll be fine with it. KH is more important than pH.

I'm gonna go get the tetras today and i was thinking of a female for my male dwarf gourami will i need 2 for him? I heard the males harass the females and really stress them out so it would be better to get 2 or 3 females per 1 male..but thats just if i come across a female

1 male dwarf gourami
2 females
1 bristlenose pleco
2 german blue rams (male&female)
8 neon tetras
Thats the list of fish i would love in my 20 gallon sound like too much?? doing 30% WC once a week let me know if im good to go once again thanks for all the help and lupin i'll be getting that GH & KH tester if i got enough DOUGH:thumbsup:

the tiger barbs may not be a great idea. they consider all non-tiger barbs to be targets.

I don't have any personal experience with gourami, because I researched and thought like hell about them for a while, they just weren't my cup of tea. I don't remember hearing anything about 1:1 being a bad female/male ratio, like other fish who need more of a 3:1 ratio (like any livebearers you might plan to have in your tank). I saw your video and I don't think I saw any real plants. I was wondering if you ever thought of adding any live plants? The only reason I make mention and encourage this is because the fish you plan on keeping in there would look stunning against plants, and I believe fish like those tetras would love the addition of plants. Also, a small technical thing might be considering changing the gravel. I've had neons, rummy nose, black neons, and they've all looked so brilliant against my black fluorite gravel. The colorful gravel you have might compete and downplay the brilliance of your fish like the cardinals.

I would definitely advise against getting neons as they are definitely NOT hardy. If you look on this forum there are several threads about how neons have been inbred thus weakening those that have been tank-raised (which I believe are the majority). Cardinals are much hardier AND as my friend always says, that solid red band makes all the difference. I definitely side with Lupin when he says to get Cardinals.

Also, with the advice about ottos vs. bn pleco. I think that is up to your preference and bioload. My ottos are small, active as hell, and 3-5 should do the job for a 20 gallon planted tank (if you decide to go this route). I have no experience with bn pleco, but they don't look the coolest, to be honest (just my humble opinion!). I do think that bn is a really cool alternative to ottos because they probably won't outgrow your tank. many being from 4-4.5 inches.

What kind of filter do you have? Unless I looked over this piece of information...
