Is this overstocked or is it just me?

Just go without decor and just enough sand to cover the bottom of the tank and add even more fish. Jdm style.

When it comes down to it. Is it impossible? No, I've seen 55 gallons with worse mixes and completely healthy fish at full to near full growth. It's her money and her tank, let he experiment however she wants to.
 
I agree with going with no decor.. at least more space. Just a bit of sand will do.

Overstocking? Maybe.. but as long she dun mind daily water changes and the splashes here and there due to the fights the fishes will get into, I think she should be fine..

This is just my 2 cents but what if she did 2 oscars, 2 dempseys, and one jag? That would give her most of what she wants and i think the aggression levels are a little more balanced that way. I have a 125 gallon and from the fish i have had in and out of my tank i could see this fairing well.

Over stocking works (not all the time, but it does)

In my 75g i have...

1 male red spotted Severum (9")
1 male gold Severum (5")
1 male rotkeil Severum (2")
1 male notatus Severum (5")
2 male Angel fish (both between 5-6")
1 male Ellioti (6")
1 male Festivum (5-6")
5 Black Ruby Barbs (all between 2-3")
2 Bristlenose plecs (both female both 5")

i change 30% of the water a week, had this set up minus the small sevs for 2 years, no deaths to any of my cichlids (have lost a few barbs), no problems.

I do this because i have no room for a bigger tank in my house, i did have 2 8" female gold severums and my male Red Spot bred with them both over a space of 4 weeks so i sold both females off.
 
she absolutely wants the festeas and jag so i can't convince her out of the cichlids that would ruin the tank.
