Is This Red Devil a Hybrid?

If all you guys wanna talk Legit pure, you should bring all your DNA papers for all your fish. The fish that doesn't have that prove should be considered mutt as this one.

Pure or not all come by word of mouth.. WC or not is by word of mouth even.. How legit is all this?

That "I got it from" BS dont fly and proves how weak this hobby is in that area.. Sellers sell. All day everyday.

Show paper work/. That's how you prove things. If not then ppl shouldn't be this funny.

When there's paper work and proof in play, that's when it can get legit. Other than that, it's all he say she say anywaysssssssss...

PS in Taiwan they microchip their fish.

Ive never even heard of paperwork for fish before. Thats crazy but I see what you are saying, its word of mouth and your view that determines the fishes purity

Ok the rest of us here that keep and breed midas an devils try are best to get, breed and distribute back into the fish community fish that are pure. We go through the trouble of buying wild pairs and fish from RELIABLE vendors vs buying fish from our lfs labeling whatever we want and selling mutt after mutt. Im getting tired of this everyone has to prove their fish are wild and vendors are liars nonsense. I get it, we cant say our fish our pure without documentation and vendors could lie! COULD lie. But you have just about as much evidence that theyre lying than we do that our fish are pure.

On a second note, a new member of mfk who comes to ask the age old is it a pure midas or red devil question should not get the answer you just gave animal guy. How on earth as a fish hobbyist do you think it was responsible for you to tell him that fish was a pure anything. Makes no sense. I get it your trying to make some sort of opinionated point but giving lousy advice on a thread is not the best way to do it. So now that member goes and get two of those fish and breed them and distributes them as PURE Red Devils. Why? BecUse he was TOLD they were pure on a fish forum. Congrats you just turned the OP into the same unreliable vendor your accusing rapps and others to be. Arent you?

To the OP. your fish is a mutt. If it was but as a midas/red devil at almost any local store its a mutt. If the store owner could not tell you anymore information on that fish its a midas red devil mix. Period. That is why its always suggested if you want pure stock go to a reputable vendor. My recommendation is jeff rapps.

The truth is that there aren't regular exports of fish from Central America. Wild fish in the hobby come from either hobbyists collecting them or from infrequent imports of the type Jeff Rapps recently had (post his Nicaraguan collecting trip with Rusty Wessel).

You can't just "order" wild fish from Central America like you can fish from exporters in Peru, the Rift Lakes of African, Florida or Asia.

Animalguy - It's not about "paperwork"; it's about asking the most basic question regarding where fish came from. If it sounds like BS...is full of defensiveness and secrecy, etc., it most likely is!

Our hobby's based on trust...and mislabeling (intentional or out of ignorance) violates it.

just dont breed fish u dont feel u should.

Im sure there are some out there that had brought their pure breed 100% 100% to the lfs. Im sure there are because I have and I know ones who did too.

And you know what the problem is? The problem your minds are just washed. LOL. U are actually taking one kind of fish and just tying to make differences out of them by the little things..

science is cool. It's microscopic :) seeing things beyond keeping fish. Gonna find all kinds of differences in everything with science. And show the science bro. That's what I meant by paperwork. If not then why are we being this way all the time?

Do all reputable sellers take all their breeders or fish they bring in to the scientist to check dna or whatever? If so then I'll stfu

find these guys and ask them to check your fish. Everybody find a specialist for their breed. It's going down. If not then all of your fish are Mutts :)
