Dont worry you dont have to lower the water level. The main reason for reducing the water level is it help to reduce stress to the fish if the fish is having SBP...

if the fish is having problem balancing itself..
it reduces pressure to the fish and also help to minimise the stress to the fish. Moreover lower water levels are used to minimise dosage if you are treating your arowana. Ive kept my rtg before in high water levels and he never had a problem

I would be more concerned with the aro hitting the top with higher water level.

I too have an internal overflow with weir, and my aro occassionally hits the glass lid or eurobrace. He's use to it for the most part .
