A week ago i bought 9 black nasty at just 2" each but out of the 9 four of them has pair off already on each sides of the tank and keep the other five in the middle, now i'am not use to fish this small but i have had fish this size before but never witness this, like i said they are only 2" maybe 2.5" at the most and right now in a 90gal.

Ouch...sorry to burst your bubble man, but 90 gallons is definetly too small. I don't think the black nasties are breeding yet...not sure. Anyway, they will quickly outgrow the 90g. I suggest you get a much larget tank.

Pairing in know way says the fish have to be breeding. I have had fish pair off at an early age and stay together through maturity. I Would guess this is what you are seeing. A 90 is plenty big enough for 9x 2" fish. Haitensis grow SLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!!!!! So you will have even longer than most CA/Sa cichlids :) Be careful to not overfeed them as they succumb to bloat habitually.....

just 2 maybe 4 depending on the best looking ones to me, and i do have bigger tanks for them but at 2" for now thats good, an i'am not saying they are going to breed at this size just want to no if its common for them to pair off this early, an plenty of people have kept blk nsty in smaller tanks then a 90gal. They will only max out at 12"- 15" for a male in captivity if that.

it kills me that some people on this site think that they no so much about tank space for a fish if that was so for those people keep your fish in the wild an you do'nt have to worrie about tank space at all.

i don't think that's too small.
my female and my male sort of paired off when she was around 2 inches and he was around 3.
they grow slow though. i highly recommend that you take out the pairs and give them their own tanks or start dividing them up. stress is a big precursor to bloat.

I have seen them breed at 3". I agree about tank space they grow pretty slow so you should be good for a while.

Just look at the avatar of the person who posted about tank space it says alot:banhim:.lol.

Agreed on them being slow growers. I have one that is not even two inches and hasn't grown at all in the 2 months I have had it. A 90 gallon buys you quite a bit of time.

I must say nay nay to slow growth, below is my female odo at 3", just after I bought her at the July 2006 ACA convention, these eggs were infertile.

Here she is at 10" a year and a half later, that is she, in my avatar with no male present

Rate of growth has much to do with water changes, non-or over crowding, and proper diet. Haits also like it warm, I keep mine mid 80s. Below, her 10" mate.

Full tank shot?^^ And They are on average, slow growers....Are you suggesting out of all of us, you are the only one who changes their water, and keeps them in the mid 80's? I have had 1 grow super super fast...All others pale in comparison.
