Depends on how "hot" you're talking.

Really hot water weakens your seams on glass/silicone sealed tanks. That's typically why you're told not to do it. The silicone softens and the glass blows off.

I hear you, but the hot water i only being used to bring the temperature up to the desired level. The point is to stop any sort of rapid temp change hot or cold

If water hot enough to soften silicone were added to a tank, your fish would become dinner.

I just pump in 80 degree water as always with my python and add prime before the new water starts coming in. Works like a charm. Besides most dechlorinators break down heavy metals or at least they claim to.

If your really worried about heavy metals in your water heater drain it completely and run some water through it then refill and start over. This should be done every 5 years or so anyways.

I do it during a water change. Hot and cold water straight from the tap. Add Dechlor while filling the tank. Never had a problem.

Same here, no problem with my angels, discus and Rams.

how many times does this have to be answered
At least a few more. Maybe we can start another tab for lame craigs list adds and "Are copper water pipes safe" threads.

I guess I'll find out, I finally broke down and got a Python Friday after 40 years of buckets.
