Is utah illegal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it does not say potamotrygon in there....

they are legal. only rays not legal are the ones in the daystidae?sp? family. I currently have 3 motoros and know of half a dozen others keeping freshwater rays in utah. I also know the guy trplxj mentioned that did all the research and talked with dwr to make sure they were legal

It means that the only ray that is legal in your area is the Atlantic stingray. All the other types of rays are illegal in your area. I know because we have the same rule here in Cali.

Exactly. Even if they meant all freshwater stingrays, they only specified Dasyatidae. Therefore you can only not keep Dasyatidae. It's not your fault they failed to seek the advice of an Ichthyologist when trying to figure out all the stingray species. And until the law is amended, if it even is, you can keep Potamotrygon.

Besides, even if the law is put in place, all the existing stingrays would probably be grandfathered in, right? Like the Asian Arowana.

I called Utah Fish and game and they said it applied to all stingrays, (at least that's how they would try and enforce it)
