That def did not happen at Petsmart. We can only sell stuff at the corporate price, and we do not sell CKs for 40$ lol...

Well...they did. But my CK was almost a 1'

I once donated a CK to them. They told me I couldn't get anything for it because they couldn't sell it. They were just going to put it in their display tank in the break room...I come in 2 weeks later and they were selling him for $40 :irked:

i got a RD from them that was"donated" and they just gave it to me but i had to fill out adoption papers and give it a damn name...needless to say satan was the name applied

You gave it the name Satan on your adoption papers? LOL I would have named it fluffy.

Don't deal with the major chain stores (petco, petsmart). The peopl in there have know idea what they are doing. Find one good lfs and stick with it. after they get to know you, your in.

this is true

Find one good lfs and stick with it.

Thats a problem when the only other fish place in the area is a dump (store and tanks).

Petsmart is it for me...

I think this is a tough topic. You have to go into a store educated to begin with and not just accept what has being delivered. I know a couple lfs that would dump something off on someone just because they don't want risk losing it in their store.

For the most part I do not buy fish from the chain stores, but there are exceptions to the rule. I picked up 5 Ctenopoma acutirostre from PetSmart for like $40 when the lfs down the street from me was selling them for $15 and $18 a piece.

As far as the workers go, you do have to be careful, I will admit that. Once again, use your better judgment and decide for yourself if they seem educated or not. I worked at my local Petco for 6 years in high school and college, and I will admit that I was the minority by already being knowledgeable in the hobby, but not everyone is uninformed.

Bottom line...you have to think for yourself.
