Istlanum in the hobby

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Istlanums are definately scattered around in the hobby. Just need to look around.

Gani, I might able to hook you up with a male. Do you remeber the one without the tail? I hope he still has it.

Anyway, I will contact my source to see if he can bring in some red ones.

For sure Gary. I've seen this male with no tail. As long as it does not shoot blanks then it's fine for breeding purposes. It's safer for the female too :D. I'll make sure to visit you before the meet.

Is the male a genetic defect without a tail or did due to aggression of some sort? Would make a difference in wanting to use it as a stud.

hopefully they get things going

gary- hook gani up with the male. as long as the male isnt defromed genetically

I don't think it's genetics. Gary could verify but I think it was from fighting. You know how they are. They're like Grammodes and the two of you, only nice to the other sex when in heat . The fish got its tail cut off so you two be careful

I have an 8+ inch male that I don't want to part with.
I also know a guy here locally that has a breeding pair and at least one tank full of grow outs.

no news on this at all...?
what's going on here? the suspense is killing me! :grinno:

I found a pic of the Istlanum w/o a tail. At 3". Posted March 23, 2006.

Reason:

The islantum without tail is actually pretty agressive and defends an area aqainst other fish. When it was around an inch it got swallowed by another fish and it almost became dinner but somehow it got away.

That guy is AWESOME! I'd buy that just to have him in my collection!

I'm sure I'll look like that after a few years of marriage too...... a little lighter in the shorts if you will. :(

So is it still alive? Did Gary find out.......
