It’s been over two years since I jacked it up and cut it apart

I started to bleed the brakes today but my assistant had to go shopping with her sister and I put that on hold for today.

My brake bleeding device consists of a root beer bottle, a piece of welding wire, and a short Volkswagen fuel hose.

There is the transmission all installed. I picked this up and walked it out of my garage and set it down in back of the car without a cart. That was my heavy lifting for today.

It’s still needs the axles and cables attached but they’re wrapped in plastic for now.

I put Loctite on things that made sense, but I must remember to safety wire the grub screw. If this falls off while you’re driving you can’t shift!

Here I am mocking up the battery hold downs, fuel filler and tank supports.

These are my brackets, saddles, and straps for the fuel tank mounting. There’s a couple other little pieces I’m not showing but all the stuff needs to get welded together and then painted.

I have been burnishing these things for hours to get all the rust and paint off, and square up my brackets, which I made with square tube & a grinder.
 
After I got the wheels all painted and back on the car one of the tires kept going flat right away and it turned out it had a bad valve stem.

Here it is up on my welding bench and I have broken it down with my dad‘s old fashion tire spoons. You can see I’m pulling the new valve stem into place with this little valve stem tool from the 60s.

$4.02 for a pair of new stems. I got off cheap. Also The 1960 Craftsman spoons.
