IT HAS BEGUN MUAHAHAHAH

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lmao :) kk thanks for the help.

Messiner. How should we do it than rather tha silicone? or should we just drain the water every 2 years and silicone it?

you got me there buddy, im of no help when it comes to acrylic work :(

Argh. Del if you ever come to fl you gota stop at my house :) Nothing compared to rally or neo but its pretty cool.

I'll just replace the silicone every time it starts to leak i guess.

I dont see how an elbow would slow it down that much, i have 2x 2" bulkheads with an elbow thats 2" all its doing is flowing down rather than just flowing straight into the bulkhead, this helps with my water level alot. And i dont plan on doing 4k gph i found a 3,000gph pump for 40$ that im gona use

i dont think that will flow 3000 but i guess we will see.lol
and an elbow does slow it.

my 1" with elbow barely keeps up with 250gph.
so i would guess 2" with elbow would do 500gph.
so 2 2" overflows with bow would be 1000gph.
so 3000 will pump to fast.
all this is my guessing but it sounds good.
i sure wish i overdid it cus now i have to drain and drill more.

2" PVC flows 1800gph last time I checked, minus any other fittings (every turn hurts flow, 90's and unions are some of the worst.)

If your bulkhead fitting is 2". then your hole is smaller, giving you much less flow.

Here's a link on friction loss:
http://www.mdminc.com/Friction_Loss_Chart.htm

A 2" elbo is the same loss as 6 foot of straight pipe.

Here's a drain size calculator.
http://www.reefcentral.com/calc/drain.php?gph=3000&drain=Submit

Enter the flowrate you want, and do two of whatever size it gives you.
It says use 2.25" PVC for 3000gph, using 3 or 4 2" drains would be a wise move.

Fish die and clog pipes, with two 2" you'll overflow for sure if one clogs.

reeeerrr
i just checked,and yup,no one said 2" couldnt.
did say with a 90 tho ;)

and good post. :headbang2
but milk jumps the gun.lol
i think the bulks are on there way already. :D

just did the drain one
250gph "mine"
drain pipe diameter = 0.65 inches
lol my 1" bulk with 90 can barely keep up with the pump.
so a 90 does hurt it bad.just to say :)

Thanks midnight.

Finaly finished water changes so I figured I'd continue my rant.

If ya have a 1" hole in the tank, the male portion that goes through the glass is only 3/4ths. I'm guessing on the measurements, others could give the correct ID.

When someone says they're using 2" pipe, the hole in the tank is really 2.25-2.5" in diam, the bulkhead fitting should be a true 2" ID to eliminate a bottleneck.
