...Now before we drill i gota find a pump witha uv sterlizer that pushes around 4kgph

Did you decide against the one that pushes 2400 gph? I have sterilizers too. They need bulbs though. Bulbs need to be replaced every 12 months. I'll try to get the specs this weekend. I am going into finals so time is not on my side.

...I cant find a large enough black background...

Walmart fabric Dept. Get two yards of black felt. It will cost you seven bucks and change. And it looks awsome when installed.

im gonna have to disagree, with decent maintenence i dont see why a bulb should be replaced before it burns out. i know a guy who has an 18wt on his goldfish pond outside and has had it running with the same bulb for over 5 yrs. just my opinion:D

milk, just use a smaller pump like 2200gph. or more bulkheads and more WD:headbang2

the people who make it suggest you replace the bulb every 12 months. Could be so you spend more money but i doubt it. you have to replace regular flourecent tubes every 12 months so i dont see why you wouldn't have to replace a UV bulb

Do not fix the leak with Silicone. Like I said many pages back a acrylic tank should have no silicone. Silicone sticks to acrylic on a scale from 1 - 10 at about 3 where it sticks to glas at about 7-8. The only thing silicone is good for in an acrylic tank is an eye sore. If it would be my tank I would drain the tank remove all the silicone clean it and then run Weld- On # 4 with a syringe on all seams and follow up with Weld-On # 16. # 4 is like water and should seep into any tiny little groove that is still open and the thicker # 16 will just be for extra security

this is sounding like a sound idea to me too, drain it and put a bunch more acrylic sement in the seams.

Well, we used the #4 stuff i believe, but the 16 stuff i've never heared of, do you have a pic?

We drilled the holes tonight here you go.

will drill the inline hole after we get the pump.

and a pic of one of ivans old dats i bought. hes doing amazingly well, while the other one looses his first stripe near his head and is very dark, Could be do to no place to hide and he is the smallest, all eating very well on shrimp

The bulb stops producing the proper wavelength. The visible light that is still produced has nothing to do with killing micro-organisms. The wavelength is in the ultraviolet spectrum and is invisible to humans. The starter in the bulb vaporizes in time and it loses its strength. Find any standard flourecent bulb that has been in service for over a year and look at the ends. They will be dark or black. That is the starter that has been slowly vaporizing and condensing on the glass. If you replace old flourecents like that you will notice a definite brightness. In UV bulbs, that brightness is the wavelength that is doing the work. Past 12 months, the bulb has lost 60-80% of its usefull wavelength. What is produced is not effective because the contact time to absorption ratio is not high enough. It is like giving the micro-organisms a suntan rather than a sunburn. If they are not killed on the first pass, they will not be killed on any subsequent pass. Your friend has been burning unneeded electricity for the last four years.
