So a few days ago I found this lil girl sitting in broad day light laying her eggs in the sand while fishing. Just more or less felt like sharing it and some pics I took of her. She was there hard at work for a few hours before we left. Hope her eggs all hatch and that I can possibly catch it on video, lol rare enough to catch them in the act of nesting in the wild let alone catching the moment the babies come out of the sand, but I'm going to try. But enough rambling here's a couple pics I took. Wish I could've gotten a bit closer but I didn't want to scare her anymore then I already was just by being there.

That’s really cool, I appreciate you sharing this Comrade.
O yeah been meaning to post it sooner but kept forgetting to. I wonder how long I'd have to wait before they hatch. It would be nice to have a rough estimate to know when I should be looking out for the hatching process. Atleast then I'd boost my chances of catching it happen in the act. Lol either way tho them largemouth in there are going to have a feast, maybe one or 2 might survive to adulthood but I doubt they all will.

Damn, I have a female red ear slider and a male yellow belly slider. The male has matured but the female I think hasn't yet so he sorta bullies her. They are both around teenager age, like 6 or 7 years old. Planning to put them in a pond next year.

You've got a beautiful painted turtle, where d'you keep her in?

Ah, my bad, just realised you saw her while fishing, you weren't keeping her. It is awesome to have all kinds of wildlife around you like that.

The Painted Turtle is wild he was fishing when the event occurred.

I have seen turtles hatching out. I grew up on a lake. Sitting on the beach area of a neighbors house one morning the ground just behind me started to move and little painted turtles started digging their way out. Never saw the mothers laying eggs though. I don't know how long the process takes. Once the neighbor knew that he was hosting a nesting area he would make sure to be really careful in the beach area until after the 4th of July so my guess is 6 to 8 weeks. I don't remember when exactly it was they were hatching but it was starting to get hot on a regular basis which is middle end of June usually.

So I was curious so I googled it. It says most of the time they hatch in the fall. 72 days to hatch. I may have seen a rare occurrence? But I think it happened that way multiple years. Maybe I have the time of year mixed up in my mind...... Some overwinter in the nest but that long seems really off also.?‍♂️
