Make sure THERE IS NO PLACE for you eel to get out of your tank. They are crazy sneaky.

Nice looking tank. I would really like to have a nice eel setup someday.

I got into salt about a year ago with a 20 long and I upgraded to my current 72 bowfront even though I still have both running. I haven't regretted the decision to change from fresh even a second. I find salt so much more interesting and I find myself staring at small areas of the tank for extended periods of time because I will always notice something new.

Yeah I cant wait till I get my eel, I think itll end up looking really nice:D

Welcome aboard!

wallet = will drain quickly, so take good care of that expensive stuff.

Eels = super crafty. Leave them no holes to escape from. Very serious or you will come home to eel jerky on the floor. Its a dreadful feeling.

I myself am hoping to get an eel in a year or so when I am ready.

For now my advice is this, if you want to ever see your grouper, you will remove some rock. Even the personable groupers love to hide. Minatus's are only going to come out when there is food involved.

Thats good advice, but I have no where else to put the live rock, would you suggest just spreading it over the bottom with a few stacks so I could see the miniatus better?

I would not do that, you want maximum surface exposure of your LR to the water if you spread it out you are going to lose quite a bit of that surface area in the substrate. If you want to lower the ammt of LR in the display and still keep good surface area of the LR you have the sump is a great place to stash smaller chunks, then restack/scape with the larger chunks so your fish have comfy spots to hide in but not totally vanish.

If you can pull it away from the back of tank that would actually be a good idea. If you have all the rock up against the back wall stuff will get trapped back in there which will cause you problems in the long run. I like to bring mine out a little bit and let water flow through there. Dead spots in a saltwater tank can result in very bad things especially with something like an eel that will produce loads and loads of waste.

Try to keep your rockwork as open as possible, it helps with dead spots, keeping your fish in the open, and ironically providing more shelter for them.

My brother and I have both used masonry drill bits to drill holes in LR and zip tie them together...very stable, and you can create some wacky stuff. Did this for my 125g pred tank. I am warning you though, minatus are cave dwellers, and they will lodge themselves into the smallest holes they can find, and then dart out for food. This is why I would suggest making the rock work simple and "open".
