but even if americans are practically giving it away the shipping costs would be huge to transport so many fish across the world, likely cheaper to rely on the communal fish markets

Considering the return that could be made by selling all that carp, it should be able to make up for the transport cost and should be able to also make a decent profit.

Besides, if anything the Chinese would probably interested, as they're having some problems just maintaining declining carp numbers in their own waters.

Is this a targeted fishery or are the carp caught as bycatch? Whether the commercial fishermen intentionally target them or not is important when putting into context how many are being caught and sold.

It's targeted fishery. Still hasn't put a dent on the populations. That said, the asian carps are cheaper than native buffaloes and catfish.

No, that's not what I mean, these asian carps bring lower prices per pound. For example $.18 per pound for an Asian Carp while a $2.00 per lbs for a buffalo. It's just an example and not an actual price per pound. So why importing dirty cheaper fish that bring you a little money? I've heard in few sections where holds overpopulations of asian carps are not safe to eat (starved carps do not makes good food fish).

I do think that they makes best fertilizer and animal food than for humans. But at last healthy Asian carps are suitable food consumption unlike common carps and grass carps (in United States).

LOL Its not as easy as it seems to catch a fish and try and sell it to any Asian market store with in the Twin Cities here. Just because its different doesn't mean a Asian is going to go "oh yes me want me give you money right now!" haha I'm Asian and like most Asians from the Twin Cities they would rather catch one them self. I haven't tried eating one myself since I haven't caught one but have read they are great deep fried. Like most Minnesotan's I'm more of a Crappie/Walleye/Perch guy an a occasional white bass here and there. I did hear if you snag one they put up a pretty good fight.
