Widebar dats are impossible to find. There is some hope though...I've been playing with a tentative list of fish. Here's what I've come up with.
12x Clown Loaches
1x NGT
1x Bushynose Pleco
2x Dward Gouramis
5x Swords (2.3)
-misc fish (other live bearers, tetras, barbs, etc bought on a whim)
I fell in love with NGTs. I'm just worried they might be a bit too aggressive for what I'm going fori. I think the key is getting a small enough NGT to start. I found one at like 4". Have him marked at $100, I can take it home for $60. Good deal?

Wes you're killin me. Thank god whatever you say goes in one ear and out the other. Have to been to SA lately? They usually have some cool stuff. Lord knows that NGT you scored back in the day was a screamer.

.One observation.....What happens when the dat grows big enough to swallow your misc fish? Other than that, I say go for it.
Why as what "might" happen? HAHA I know you mean well and I'm just messin with ya. I just want a dat. If Li doesn't want to sell me some, then a NGT is my last option. We'll deal with things as they come. BTW, Deathcul...you heading to SA soon? I want to meet up.
Just to update. My water tested as follows
pH: 6.8 (slightly acidic due to the dw I'm guessing)
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates are unknown, but a water change is in order.
It looks like the seeded filter cartridge worked like a charm. So this is my game plan for the next week or two.
Saturday (11.4): Finish decor, water change, add carbon
Sunday (11.5): NGT (assuming the one I've got my eye on is eating)
Friday (11.10): first wave of clown loaches (5 small little guys and one bigger one)
Friday (11.17): second wave of clown loaches (6 more)
Friday (11.24): add whatever other fish I like
