I'VE GOT EGGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The divider idea would be ideal, less stress on the fish and you wouldn't have to worry about cycling a new tank. I would use the 10 as a grow out for the fry once they are free swimming because they might fit through the holes in the divider at that stage. You should be quite proud of yourself, lots of people keep fish but it doesn't mean that they have their fish happy enough to breed. Now why are you worried about the bichir? he shouldn't be a threat to the rams at his current size and not for a while at least.

I guess I'm just worried he might be interested in the eggs. But I guess he won't be?? I can pick up a divider today or tomorrow. I can definitely use the 10 for a grow out tank then. I am very proud of myself that they are happy enough to have done this. They keep taking turns watching the eggs.

How many days will pass before I know if they have been fertilized and might live? I need to do my homework with this. I can't get over the excitement. It's part of me being a mom also that I'm excited to see the babies! Hahahaha. Well thats just me.

I'll pick up the divider if I can afford it tonight while I'm at work. If not I hope they'll be ok till I can get one tomorrow.

I remember my first time, convicts! Unfortunately rams are not that easy to feed. Try soaking a banana peel in a jar of water and let it sit near a window for a few days to start a infusoria culture for their first food. You will start to see a cloud formation in the water. Use an eye dropper to collect the cloud and feed to the fries once they start free swimming.

Great info! Thank you so much!

I don't think your bichir will have very much interest in the eggs, they would be quite small and not much of a meal.

You will know in about a day or so if they are fertile or not.

Now relax and remember to breath :)

You won't need to worry about feeding them until they are at the free swimming stage.

OMFG GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY SEVERUM LAID A BUTT LOAD OF EGGS TOO!!! BUT SHE HAS NO BF TO FERTILIZE THEM :( BUT OMG, HOW AMAZING IS THIS?!?!

You are doing a great job as a first time Fish Mom! You don't have to stress out over anything. Let the Rams take care of the eggs and future fry. In the mean time you can start getting things arranged for their next batch. I think Hikari is the company that makes food for fry called First Bites. That may help you. When my fish breed, I just leave them with the parents as long as possible. They do a better job with the babies than I do. Once they grow big enough, I remove the majority of them or how many I can manage to catch. The rest usually become food for tankmates. Good luck.

Aww to bad she doesn't have a bf to fertilize the eggs. The rams must have set the mood for the severum. Now all you need to breed in there are your cories then you will have the trifecta in the tank. Congrats once again :)
Now what did you put in that water the last water change ;)

A quarter cap full of Prime and 1mL of stress coat. Lol. My temp is at 83. I dunno what to say, I'm in shock.
