What do you do to clean your tahitian moon sand? I have never had good luck with that stuff, in helping others set up marine tanks (I advised against it.) or at work, where we were running it in some tanks.

I've used the moon sand for many years, I've never encountered a problem with cleaning it. I often do not clean it at all, I do use a sponge prefilter on the intakes of my filter but not because of the sand but to keep the filter from picking up the live daphnia I feed.

been awhile since i heard from you about your paddlefish, how are they doing ??

My paddlefish are doing great, the 4 in the 75 are active and eat well, the two in the 6,000 pool are no where to be seen but the pool is not clear so that is to be expected. I hope I can transfer them to a 220 or a 360 by next summer but as things go now they are growing slow if at all, the idea the fish were genetic dwarfs seems correct so far.

On top of my own dwarfing techniques I don't expect these fish to grow very fast and stay smaller than wild adults by a large margin.

Long term captives, 4 years, of these dwarf paddlefish are less than 10" long, most are around 10" mark. Mine are in the 8" to 10" range but seem to have either stopped growing or are growing very slow. To be honest I have no idea how big they will be long term but so far the predictions of the people I got them from have been spot on... Normal fish from the same brood are in the 18"+ range now

cool
