Paddlefish are still doing well, the tank temp has dropped to 68 or so due to winter and me liking a cool house but this summer they did well in an outdoor tank that hovered in the mid to upper 80's. My paddlefish are doing well eating floating pellets, my daphnia cultures have crashed for the winter.
The paddlefish have stopped bothering other fish and ghost shrimp and seem to be satisfied with pellets. I think the fish eating stage was passed by three months old and so far they have ignored subsequent fish kept with them.
So far damage to their rostrum has been minimal, i was practically expecting them to tear it off from what most popular accounts seem to indicate but so far only a few small dings on the paddle.
Right now their only tank mates are scavengers, coolie loaches, Cory cats, and ghost shrimp. The biggest paddlefish seems to be dominating the smaller ones pretty bad especially at feeding time.
I am thinking of introducing a a couple of iridescent sharks to see how the paddlefish react to another big swimming fish.
