Agree with CrazyLegz about the spirulina, while snorkeling with JDs in cenotes in Mexico, I noticed that they constantly graze on algae that is growing everywhere.

Although they try to eat the livebearers that hover above them, they seem to miss at least 9 out of every 10 times, meaning 90% of their diet is algae and whatever lives within it.

Any spirulina based food should work, I use HBH Super Soft Spirulina for all my cichlids, it is not dry, and easily sinks.

I honestly think feeding some kind of algae or vegetable is the only way to keep ebjds healthy and living...my 7" ebjd ive had well over a year now has only had problems once, it was ick and only lasted a day when he was like 2"...him and my sailfin pleco would literally fight over the algae wafers I threw in there
