Jack and Jag went in a 55...help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As an option:

When you get the 125 Gal move the Male Jag into it and get a female Jag...

Then leave the Female Dempsey in the 55 gal and get a male Dempsey...

Then you get to enjoy both species and have 2 types of sellable offspring...

But this approach means you need to get the 125 gal sooner rather than later... if your not getting the 125 gal soon I would find a way to rehome the female Dempsey and get a Female Jag...

Hey, I think you've got a good plan, and people should stop hating on hybrids. Theres nothing wrong about it as long as you stay honest. The problems come when you breed carpintis to cyano and sell it a purebred, for example. Making a "Jag Dempsey" is just fine imo as long as you don't try to spread them as purebred of either which I don't think in this case will happen.

What happens if the OP makes Dempsey/Jag hybrids... sells them to me as hybrids... but I don't really know anything about fish and my hybrid spawns with a Dempsey and I give all these "Dempsey Babies" away to friends and/or sell them to the pet store...

Then you buy a "Dempsey" but end up with a mix breed...

I also do not appreciate you saying I/we are "hating on hybrids". That is NOT how I feel and you should keep you assumptions in check. I support responsible fish keeping and promote ideas to support responsibility.

personally i would do it, use half if not mostly all of the babies as feeders and keep two or three just to see how things play out once they grow; wouldn't sell or give them away though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid

A hybrid is the combination of two or more different things, aimed at achieving a particular objective or goal.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_(biology)

The first meaning is the result of interbreeding between two animals or plants of different taxa.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hybrid?o=0

The offspring of two animals or plants of different breeds, varieties, species or genera, esp. as produced through human manipulation for specific genetic characteristics. (esp means especially, not only… and someone who selectively chooses breeding partners is offering “human manipulation” even though the fish breed naturally in an aquarium).

There ya go Bitteraspects, I did my homework… next time do yours…

By the way, I’m hating on irresponsible fish keeping, not hybrids… something else for you to do some homework on…

A crossbreed or crossbred usually refers to an animal with purebred parents of two different breeds, varieties, or populations. Crossbreeding refers to the process of breeding such an animal, often with the intention of creating offspring that share the traits of both parent lineages, or producing an animal with hybrid vigor. While crossbreeding is used in livestock breeding to maintain health and viability of the animals, irresponsible crossbreeding can also produce animals of inferior quality or dilute a purebred gene pool to the point of extinction of a given breed of animal.

do your homework again hater. trying to justify yourself just makes you look more foolish.

putting two different breed of fish in the same tank does not constitute human manipulation. unless you physically do something (i.e. turkey baster fertilization), then its still natural breeding, not "human manipulation". much in the same wayi can introduce you to a korean girl, but its your choice to have sex with her or not.

"you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make it drink"

im sure youre one of those fish nazis that thinks only blonde finned blue eyed fish should live and populate the lakes, and im sure hitler is proud of your efforts to go out of your way to express that ideal, but to the rest of us... youre just another lonely HATER. so take your aryan logic and stuff it up your fishtank.

and have a wonderful day.

im done here

get rid of the jack, get a female jag and keep the populations as they are, do not introduce new hybrids to the population, there is already too many out there.

if you are going to breed with out taking any of our info in then do not sell any, cull the fry.

I love you bitteraspects.... LOL
