Hold up, man. Did you just say that you actually spanked your Oscar?!!!:screwy: You mean to tell me that you pulled your Oscar out of the water and spanked him?!! This has got to be the craziest thing that I have read to date on this site. Man, don't tell people this story ever again. It doesn't sound sane. You're an O spanker, hands down the oddest thing to date!
 
wow i smell a troll..... anyways if hes not a troll then my mistake but i deff sense one... anyways, Os and jd will not and i repeat WILL NOT under any sercomstance breed at ALL! END OF LINE. and IMO a 8 inch cichlid should be in a tank atleast of a 18 inch wide tank. so a 75 min for a jd in my oppinion.. oscars should be in atleast a 6 foot tank ( mine are in a 5 foot but overfiltered ) dude just reread all of the advice over again and try to get it into your head..

and spanking your fish?! dude thats just wrong! fish do what there are best at doing ( or there instinks (sp) tell them to do ) wow i think ill nickname you oscarspanker... not to be harsh or anything but dude comeon noone in there right mind would spank a fish, there not human. and plz i repeat PLZ get a bigger tank, atleast a 125 for the fish you currently have.. minus the goldfish..

PS. my aunt use to spank her fish with a spoon if they get in fights ( meaning chasing them with a spoon not taking them out and spanking them ) and that to is just wrong.. in all serisousness get fish that co-habitite togther and get along. and get a bigger tank to!

i will not get a bigger tank intil i have my own plce. there is no way my mom will let me have a 100 gal tank... end of disscusion on that!!! I did spank my fish but its not like i just beat the hell out of him. you can pet oscars. go look it up if you do not believe me! they have some of a memory. i spend a lot of time watching and yes sometimes a little talking and he has been in this tank maybe 2 months and has grown 3 inches. my JD is a week and a half of me having her. i get that they will not breed it is just an intreging thought. thank you all for the advise it was just not what i was looking for.. if you still think that my oscar is suffering then think this. before i got this 55 gallon tank he was in a 10 gal tank by his self. tell me that aint some ****!!! so he is happy!! and who is the troll?
 
Obviously you are a child by the way you talk and your need to get your mother's permission for a tank, so I understand why your tank situation is the way it is. I'm not being mean about it but it does make your thread make a little more sense. In 18 months your Oscar should be bigger. You are not keeping it in proper conditions and spanking it is not helping matters. You shouldn't get big cichlids if you can't provide adequate tanks for them. There are plenty of small fish that you can happily keep in small tanks for life. Don't post a thread about spanking Oscars and creating unheard of hybrids and expect no one to say anything about it. Listen to the advice and learn from it. If you continue to act this way and post things like this you will be considered a Troll. I hope that you will just listen to the advice and post another thread about your tank once you have the right cichlids in it. Good luck!

Jack Dempseys and Oscars are entirely different species - they are indeed both cichlids, but... Have you learned about the phylogenetic tree in biology yet?
Cichlidae is a family. Bovidae is also a family - have you ever heard of a yak or cow and a sheep breeding? No? It's partially because they don't really cross paths, but also because they CAN'T.
What about Family Mustelidae? Have you ever heard of a Badger and Otter hybrid? They don't succeed. Otherwise, believe me, someone would have tried to make it a pet before.
That's how "close" families are. Hybrids usually arise out of the same GENUS, not family.

I'm not trying to stop you from breeding hybrids, just encouraging you to try more feasible pairings.
 
yeah its impossible, Os do not breed with other species and like previously said, normally when hybrids form they are at least from the same GENUS, families are way to variable and wide spread. and dont mean to sound mean but the truth of the matter is that your oscar is at least somewhat stunted and so is that gold fish if you have had him the same amount of time, to my knowledge there is no goldfish that only stays 4in, they normally get quite large they just never can reach this size because of the bad conditions they are kept in. you should get fish that can fit comfortably in the tank you have and get more fish once you already have a larger tank set-up. re-home the oscar and the pleco if it is a common one, and just keep the JD and goldfish and maybe get some tetras or something to add more activity to the tank if you want
 
ya'll i really do like the advise you are giving and you smart ass up there that is calling me a child dont ever reply to my threads again! Ya'll i relize that i can not breed them or i cant not have them breed with each other!! i have said over and over this but ya'll seem to pick and chose what you reply too. I jsut thought that i was a cool thought!!!! my O is not stunted! He is not small! I also said that i do not know his true size! i keep trying to size him up but he doesnt want any thing near him. he likes it when i watch him.. Have none of you on here ever been close to your fish? At least one of the many you all seem to have?? Look i will have more post this is just my first.. If you dont like what i say or do DONT REPLY OR TALK TO ME ABOUT MY FISH!!!! thanks ya
