Hello, I was wondering if the pH level of your tank water will affect the color of your jack Dempsey ? He's about 4 inches long and is petty colorful but my pH is pushing 7.8 I've read that they like around 6.5 to 7

because jack dempseys are so commercialized i dont think itll make too much (if any) of a difference. as long as you stay away from crazy extremes like 4 or 10 lol. but where youre at now is fine.

im also gonna toss this in there, that might be a female. the strong coloring on the jaw is usually a trait that females have and not males.

Your pH is fine at 7.8. You are not at in an extreme range. Water changes can affect their color along with temperature changes.

In nature JDs come from waters in Mexico where the pH can be above 8, so your 7.8 is not even close to being harmful.
Most of the cenotes where I have snorkeled with them are fed thru lime stone caverns, heavy in mineral content, and can even be at times almost considered liquid rock, and or brackish from sea water influence.
