Jack Dempsey not eating.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my jack dempsey went for about 4 days without eating when I switched food brands once.....once he was hungry enough, he ate.

eating the bloodworms is a good sign, be be careful she doesnt train "you" to feed her nothing but :). Sounds like she's just settling in.......

keep us updated.....

Agreed, she is spooked and needs trained. A few days of not eating is not going to harm her. If it turns into more than a week, her stomach starts to look sunk in, or you see white stringy poop, then be concerned.

Good luck.

It could be that she is pregnant or that she is still stressed from being moved to a new tank. Try putting a few feeder fish in so she can eat at her leisure

NO, NO, NO!!!!!!!:duh: If she is ready to spawn, she will eat. She is not pregnant, cause she does not carry fish in her tummy. And feeders are an absolute no. Unless they are your own fry(convicts) and the last thing you want is a Dempsey hooked on live food.............................. Where do these people come from?:wall:

No idea! But feeders are bad for a lot of reasons, not just the lack of nutrition. A new tank that isn't fully cycled would create one hell of a water parameter problem. As I've said, the only live food mine get are ghost shrimp, night crawlers (though I cut them into small pieces) and Convict fry that I gut load with NLS before dropping em in the tank.

How long has it been since you noticed her not eating? Sorry, dont take this wrong, but my head hurts something fierce after reading this post. :wall:

So lets try and fix the problem. Does she look like she has a fat stomach, or is it sunk in? Do you notice anything unusual around the mouth area? (fungus of some sorts)

rofl its a shame that some easy fixes get complicated and the complicated ones r like three posts haha
