So here's a picture of my new JD. Its fins had been badly damaged from its previous owner, and hopefully it'll heal over time :( Can any MFK'ers JD experts help sex my new pet for me? Many thanks!

Some of the damage, especially the way they look, cannot be healed. Because it doesn't look damaged, it looks healed. I had a 8" Jack that I saved and the fins never mended because they healed that way.

Hm i'd love him/her either way, since my gf got it for me :) Any clues about the sex though?

really? i hope not lol. But either way i'm glad we rescued it from the previous owner then. :irked:

Male Cichlasoma Octofasciatum.

Dorsal and caudal fin look destroyed. That's a shame. Good job saving him though.

Here's my male. He's between 6" and 7".

Thank guys. My gf and I saw him and we felt so bad for the poor guy. The guy sold him to us for 10 bucks and my gf bought it. He's really easily spooked! i walked into my room and he bolt around the tank like crazy. Dramatized maybe

thanks :) hopefully after settling down and eating properly again, he'll look better than ever. The last guy fed him turtle pellet lol. what should i feed him beside big cichlid pellets?
