I have a very large male JD which has been acting really strange for the past 2 months or so. When i say strange, i mean he literally plays dead and swims really weird like he has no balance, but there is nothing wrong with him!

At first i thought he may have swim bladder but he doesn't. When its feeding time he is still the first fish to get the food. He has no sign of any infections, no loss of colour and no signs of agression in my tank for him to act like this.

He use to be a really active fish, but now he just plays dead unless its feeding time. When i first noticed him like this i was actually going to euthanize him as i didn't want to see him suffer, but he's not suffering and still eats every day and no loss of colour etc.

I dont know what to do with him. Its not a good look for the tank when he just lays on his side like he's dead. When people come over to visit they always say 'whats wrong with your fish is he dying or something'

Has anyone else experienced this type of behaviour, i would appreciate any advice.

Was it a gradual decline or did it happen instantly?
Instantly, i got a text from my wife one day while at work saying something is wrong with the JD and sent a pic of him like the one i attached in previous post.

I treated him for swim bladder for the first 2 weeks and was going to euthanize him at one stage thinking it was only a matter of time before he dies, but its been like 2 months now and he still eats every day. As soon as he sees me approcah the tank with food he's the first one to the surface waiting for food.

Honestly It looks like he maybe ran into something leaving lasting damage but if he is eating and looks unharmed then I would leave him also beauty of a JD BTW
Agreed!

My goldfish lived 2 years in his condition.

Oh no, I feel bad joking. He doesn’t look good.

Do you think he might have been spooked and hit the glass? I had a goldfish that was disabled from ramming into glass and he just laid like that on his side too, unless feeding time.
Haha thats what everyone says when they see him. It's really hard trying to explain he is fine and not knowing why he is acting like this.
